Mental Health Hack – Powerfully Boost Your Impact

 I want to share some simple hacks that will change your life over time.  They are things that you can do without money.  They require no special skills or aptitudes, and yet they will magnify your impact at home and at work.  You’ll strengthen your networks.  You will better live into your potential.  Here are the 12 things that you can start to do immediately.

  1. Be on time.  Give people the courtesy of not making them waste their time waiting for you to show up.  Being on time communicates respect.
  2. Be diligent at your work, whether it’s for pay or for your own goals.  Don’t “phone it in,” Usually, being just good enough does not serve you well.  Your diligence shows others that you’ll fulfill your commitments.
  3. Actively listen.  When you hear someone, you are validating them.  When you are present in conversations, you strengthen bonds and you will learn things from others.
  4. Choose to be kind and gracious.  Offer grace to others.  Compliment them appropriately.  Acknowledge their contributions.   Being kind draws kindness in return.
  5. Be prepared.  Do your homework.  Think about what you are going to do and anticipate the challenges yet might meet.  Being aware of possible unwanted outcomes and being prepared to react effectively empowers your positive impact.
  6. Do extra.  Exceed expectations.  Help a colleague.  On occasion, step up and take one for the team.  Over deliver on your commitments.  Be worth more than you cost.
  7. Own your screwups.  The willingness to do so honestly is a fundamental element of being worthy of someone’s trust.  By admitting mistakes and errors, you enable personal growth and learning.  We can grow more from our mistakes than our victories.  Take responsibility for your choices.
  8. Develop an optimistic bias.  Seeing a world of opportunities is more lush than living in a world of cynicism or pessimism.  Life will batter us all at times, the question is, how will you respond to it.  That choice is always in your hands.
  9. Be appreciative.  The world owes you nothing.  Sure, look at what you want to improve, but not at the cost of overlooking what you h.ve, How you are blessed and gifted.  Appreciate not only what you have but who you are and your potential not yet realized.
  10. Be coachable.  Be humble enough to know that you can learn from others.  Listen to different perspectives.  Where it fits, hear criticism as course corrective feedback.  Remember, no one is as smart as everyone.
  11. Smile.  Put on a friendly face.  Think positive.  Be positive.  Smile at others as a matter of course and watch how that affirmation becomes contagious.
  12. Be passionate.  Bring energy and intensity to what you do.  Throw yourself into the people and things that you care about.  Commit your heart to the elements of your life that you value.  Make it obvious that you care.

These are things that you can start to do, or do more of, from this moment on.  It’s free.  It’s rewarding.  You’ll be glad that you did.
